LAMBERTVILLE -- The Lambertville Texans have officially completed their roster for the inaugural season of Salary Dynasty Football League. GM Mike Nejedlik was presented with several challenges but overall he believes the team came out of the draft as one of the favorites to win the league championship this season.
Going into the draft, Mike's strategy was to get a highly rated QB, 1 highly rated WR, 1 highly rated RB and then find value to add depth at both RB and WR. He also didn't want to spend more than $20 total on all TE, K, and DEF drafted. Overall, based on that strategy, it basically worked out almost exactly as planned.
The Texans decided to go after either Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, or Peyton Manning. Manning was one of the first QB's nominated and when Mike put out a bid of $70 and no one put in another bid, he was extremely pleased to have gotten a top rated QB for only $70. Some people feel as though Manning is old, overrated, and an injury risk. While you can't deny that he is getting older, the GM of the Texans still believes that this move puts his team in a great position to compete for a championship this season and he will worry about the future at a later time or look to grab a QB in the College Player Draft.
GM Mike Nejedlik had 2 players that he was targeting that he felt he could get for a little less money to save on his salary cap and allow to add depth later, so he targeted both Dewayne Bowe and Stephen Ridley. Ultimately he was able to grab both players for a total of $129. Some teams spent way over that for their #1 WR and #1 RB combined. This is where Mike felt he could grab an advantage and allow his team to add depth in a deep league. He also feels that both Bowe and Ridley will be top 10 at their respective positions this season with upside of top 5.
The Texans then switched their focus to adding depth to their roster. They picked up DeMarco Murray for $55, and Daryl Richardson for $45. Both great buys in his opinion. Both backs can catch passes out of the backfield and really don't have a lot of competition behind them.
It was then time to add WR depth. GM Nejedlik was able to grab Pierre Garcon for $32, Miles Austin for $30, Mike Williams for $33, Lance Moore for $12, Denarius Moore for $20, Kenny Stills for $15, and Stephen Hill for $5. All pretty decent values in his opinion and tremendous depth for a position that is very valuable in this format. Stephen Hill and Kenny Stills are both longer term buys with the hope that either or both develop into very usable fantasy receivers at some point down the road.
The Texans went in hoping to spend a max $20 on TE, K, and DEF combined and wound up spending $27 total on the 3 positions which went pretty close to plan. Some teams spent as much as $70 just for 1 TE, but GM Nejedlik was able to manage his bankroll and fill 5 roster positions for a total of $27. TE was a position with some upside with the buy of Julius Thomas for $5. This is a good QB-TE combo to have on a roster with the hope that Thomas develops into a top tier fantasy scoring TE. The Texans decided to spend $6 on New England's defense. More than what they were hoping to spend on a defense, but when New England is in a division with some turnover friendly teams (Bills, Dolphins, and Jets), $6 seemed like a decent amount to spend. They also grabbed the Ravens for $4. While the Ravens may be in a down year, they still are going to play the Browns twice and the Steelers twice, two very offensively challenged teams which could result in good points for the Ravens D.
We are excited to see what the Texans decide to do with the upcoming College Player Draft. Will there be a trade in the future, will players perform up to expectations? Either way, the Texans have positioned themselves to be a contender in the first season and for years to come in this the inaugural Salary Dynasty Football League!
Best Value of the draft: Hard to really say right now, but I would have to originally say it is Geno Smith for $7. Hopefully when Peyton Manning is ready to leave the game, Geno Smith will be ready to take over and the Texans have him locked up for 5 years with the max price of his salary being $11 in year 5.
Worst Value of the draft: Brandon Weeden for $3. While it was only $3 and it doesn't hurt that bad, Weeden sucks and isn't worth a roster spot.
Underrated Pickup: This would have to be Miles Austin for $30. When players like TY Hilton were going for $42, Reggie Wayne $45, Wes Welker $42, Hakeem Nicks $42, Colston $39, Mike Wallace $42, Eric Decker $32, etc etc etc.. this was very good value for a WR that will be targeted a ton.
Best sleeper chance: Julius Thomas for $5. Dude is a freak and has some serious raw skills. If he can stay healthy and be consistent, this could be a huge buy.
Most likely to bust/not return value: This one is really difficult to answer. I don't really see a lot of issues with the prices for most of the players. I guess it would have to be DeMarco Murray at $55 just because he hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy for a full season. If he gets injured, then it is bad value.
Player we wish we would have gotten: I'll throw two of them here.... 1. DeSean Jackson. $28 was more than what we wanted to spend at that time, even though we had him valued for more than $40... GM Mike Nejedlik just couldn't pull the trigger to bid more and should have. 2. Kendal Hunter. We were really hoping to grab Hunter for cheap, but didn't have a lot of cash to spend at that point. Hunter may end up being the #1 RB on a team that likes to run in the very near future.
Overall draft grade: B+
I wouldn't quite give an A, but I do believe the team is positioned to compete for a championship this season.

LAMBERTVILLE -- The Lambertville Texans have issued a formal press release of their support in running back Stevan Ridley.
GM Mike Nejedlik said "While Ridley has struggled so far this season, we still see him as a player with massive upside. We continue to fully support Stevan Ridley and look forward to his soon to come turnaround."
While those were his public words spoken, team sources say behind the scenes GM Nejedlik is very worried about Ridley's start to the season. The team financially has a lot riding on him and their best hope for a deep playoff run this season hangs on Ridley performing at a high level week in and week out. While it may be impossible to trade Ridley because of his contract, keep an eye out for other moves to possibly bring in another running back as GM Nejedlik is not shy about trading any of his players for a chance to win now.
